Jay Thomson has been ruled out of the remainder of the UAE Tour after a sustaining a broken scaphoid in a crash during stage three of the race on Tuesday.

The crash, which also Stefan de Bod and Domenico Pozzovivo, occurred during the early stages of the day’s racing.

Thomson bravely rode to complete the tough stage which concluded atop the brutal summit finish of Jebel Hafeet. He was taken to hospital shortly afterwards by our medical staff for further examination where an x-ray confirmed the fracture.

Pozzovivo and de Bod both managed to finish strongly on a crucial day in the race, claiming 13th and 15th position respectively.

Piet Daneels – Doctor

Jay was been diagnosed with a fracture of the scaphoid following examination at a local hospital following today’s stage. The injury requires him to wear a cast and he will now travel home for further treatment.

There is a possibility he will have surgery to accelerate the healing process in order to restart training.
